My path to becoming a full-time artist was anything but conventional. Before picking up a brush professionally, I worked in offices and shops, delivered post, fronted a 1970s disco band as lead singer, performed as a solo artist, and even ran a hotel in Blackpool. Life was full yet something always felt missing.
A degree in Interior Design gave me a strong grounding in colour theory and visual composition, and painting was a constant thread throughout it all. No matter how busy life became, I painted in the evenings, at weekends, and even on holiday paint and paper always packed alongside everything else. Every time I picked up a brush, I felt a sense of satisfaction nothing else could match.
Eventually, I made the leap. Resigning from my office job was both daunting and exhilarating, and the doubts were real. But driving home along the North Wales coast on an Indian summer's day, watching the sun shimmer across the sea, a quiet calm settled over me. I knew I'd made the right decision.
Since then, everything has fallen into place. I've sold hundreds of paintings, now living in homes and businesses across the UK and abroad. I've completed commissions for a wide range of clients, exhibited in UK galleries, and held a solo exhibition in Wales. Collectors regularly visit my studio, and their enthusiasm is a constant reminder of why I do this.
I share my coastal home with my husband, our Labrador, and a very distinguished nineteen-year-old cat. I am never bored, never stuck. Some nights my mind races with ideas for new compositions and colour schemes, and sleep has to wait. But every morning I wake up eager to paint — and that, for me, is everything.
