Meet the Artist: Susan Wooler

Welcome to my studio. I am a contemporary abstract artist based along the ruggedly beautiful North Wales coastline, where I create original abstract paintings, premium framed canvas art, and luxury fine art paper prints designed to elevate modern interiors.

My path to becoming a full-time artist was anything but conventional. Before picking up a paintbrush professionally, my life was a vibrant tapestry of experiences: I worked in busy offices and retail shops, delivered the morning post, fronted a 1970s disco band as lead singer, performed as a solo artist, and even ran a bustling hotel in Blackpool. While life was incredibly full, I always felt a quiet pulling toward something more.

Grounded in Design, Driven by Passion

Throughout every chapter of my life, art was the constant thread. Earning a degree in Interior Design provided me with a rigorous grounding in colour theory, structural scale, and visual composition - skills that now define the balance and mood of my abstract work. No matter how demanding my day jobs became, I spent my evenings, weekends, and holidays painting. My brushes and paper were always packed alongside my luggage. Every time I put paint to canvas, I felt a profound sense of satisfaction and alignment that nothing else could match.

Eventually, I made the leap. Resigning from the security of my office job to pursue art full-time was both daunting and exhilarating, and the doubts were real. But driving home along the North Wales coast on a spectacular Indian summer's day, watching the golden sun shimmer across the open sea, all my worries dissolved. A deep sense of calm settled over me, and I knew I was exactly where I was meant to be.

From the Welsh Coast to Global Collections

Since stepping into my studio full-time, everything has beautifully fallen into place. To date, I have sold hundreds of original paintings that now bring warmth, energy, and sophistication to private homes and commercial spaces across the UK and internationally. Alongside completing custom art commissions for a diverse range of clients, I have exhibited in prominent UK galleries and held a successful solo exhibition right here in Wales. Welcoming art collectors into my studio and sharing in their enthusiasm is a constant, humbling reminder of why I do this work.

Today, my abstract acrylics are profoundly shaped by my life by the sea. The shifting coastal light, the raw textures of the shoreline, and the organic palettes of the natural world inspire every minimalist composition I create. I share this beautiful coastal life with my husband, our beloved Labrador, and a very distinguished nineteen-year-old cat. In this environment, inspiration is endless.

There are nights when my mind races so vividly with new compositions and colour harmonies that sleep has to wait. But every single morning, I wake up eager to step up to the canvas and create - and that, for me, is everything.
