Acrylic Paint
Golden Heavy Body Acrylic is the original line of Golden Artist Acrylic Colour, known for its exceptionally smooth, thick buttery consistency. These colours offer excellent permanency and lightfastness. There are no fillers, extenders, opacifiers, toners or dyes added.
Each Heavy Body colour is formulated differently depending on the nature of the pigment. Colours that tolerate high pigment loads dry to a more opaque, matt finish. Colours that are more reactive and do not accept high pigment loading dry to a glossy finish and tend to be more transparent. Heavy Body colours contain no additives, such as matting agents, therefore the gloss of each colour will reflect the characteristics of each pigment in their purest form.
Oil Paint
Old Holland Founded in 1664 during the Dutch Golden Age of Painting, Old Holland has more than three centuries of experience making artist oil paints. They are a popular choice for artists wanting densely pigmented oil colours with the highest possible lightfastness.
Old Holland’s range of 168 oil paints each has the highest degree of lightfastness. Traditional, non-lightfast pigments were replaced with modern lightfast pigments with the same colour characteristics as the traditional ones. Thanks to the highest possible concentration of pigment in each colour, the paint has an unprecedented colour strength.
Within the unique range there is a wide choice of opaque and transparent colours, each with the highest possible brilliance (intensity) and clarity (clean) characteristics. The only medium used for these oil paints is cold-pressed extra virgin linseed oil, used to obtain optimum oxidisation (drying) of the paint. This increases durability and brushstroke spread. Together, these characteristics result in an oil paint of unequalled quality.
Michael Harding Michael Harding Oil Colours are among the finest oil paints available to artists today. The colours have a high load of top-quality pigments which are ground in refined cold-pressed linseed oil (safflower oil in Titanium White No. 1). They are completely free of fillers, extenders, or driers, resulting in pure, rich and vibrant colours that are lightfast and buttery.
Michael Harding paints are made by hand, using techniques which date back to the days of the Old Masters. There is a very simple reason for this painstaking process. Harding’s past as an artist and painter compelled him to want to create colours that were true and vibrant and paint which was beautiful and durable.
The greater the pigment content of a paint the greater the resistance it has to fading. Nearly all manufacturers use various fillers to extend the volume of the oil paint. It may increase profits but it compromises on quality. Harding refuses to do this: ‘Why make something exceptional and then dilute it?’
First manufactured in 1982, Michael Harding Artists’ Oil Colours are popular with some of the world’s finest artists, including David Hockney, Chris Ofili and the late Sir Howard Hodgkin.
Varnish Each painting is given two coats of varnish
Golden MSA MSA (Mineral Spirit Acrylic) Varnish with UVLS (UltraViolet Light Stabilisers) is a Mineral Spirit Acrylic-borne resin system. MSA Varnish forms a tougher, less permeable film than waterborne acrylic emulsion varnish. It reduces dirt penetration and surface marring, offering an extremely level film with less foam and fewer pinholes.
Canvas
Winsor & Newton The Winsor & Newton Classic Canvas range offers a refined selection of cotton and linen canvases. Stretched by hand, each acid-free, archival canvas is primed with highly pigmented titanium dioxide Gesso for superior coverage and performance. The archival cloths give balanced absorbency and tooth which gives improved adhesion and responsiveness to every brushstroke. The frames are professionally constructed, crafted from kiln-dried solid Fir and Paulownia wood, the stretcher bars are rigorously tested for warp-resistance. The canvas is stapled at the back with folded uncut corners for a professional finish to allow artwork to be produced on all 4 edges of the canvas.
Gerstaecker The frame is made from high quality wood from sustainable forests and the profile is in one single piece, in contrast to other frames of this size where the profiles can consist of 2 pieces glued together. This gives the Studio range complete solidity and optimal stability.
